Sequence of Minicamp

Postby Jason O Mahony » Sat Jun 14, 2008 00:01 am

Are rookies assigned their positions before the special actions kick-in, in Minicamp ? I’m in a situation whereby I’d like to use some LP’s obtained by means of waiving a rookie to retain a CFA, who is deleted post special actions (I think). Anyone know about this ?

:thanks:

same question was recently asked by MTP IIRC, and Alan's answer was no, it'll be too late by the time you can waive your rookies.

Yep - this rule was changed some time ago as too many Coaches were screwing up and waiving someone they wanted to keep!

I have to ask this again as my strategy was based on waiving drafted players to get LPs for some special actions, i.e. coaching, fixing (reduced players) or even sign a free agent (but I guess it is processed before the actions).

Is it possible to assign shirt numbers and names in minicamp to freshly drafted players, then perform a WA action on them?
The rulebook says "if you intent to use the special actions, then make sure you name and number your draftees (to avoid confusion)".

With which special action or how can I name and number the draftees actually at this point?

It's not possible - that part of the rulebook has been replaced in the latest update.

Peter Calcraft wrote:The "names" section has been removed from draftsheets, - you can no longer enter shirt numbers for the players signed
in the draft. They'll be named and numbered automatically (the same as for those players who leave them blank, as many of you do) in mini-camp. You can still change names and numbers using the special actions in training camp or later: there are normally plenty of these to spare.

Players signed in the draft can no longer be waived in minicamp, you have to wait until training camp. This is because you don't know their shirt numbers until after mini-camp and because it's a common way of making a mess.

Am I right in saying that both CFA's AND Step Losses are processed at the end of minicamp....or are SL's processed in Training Camp ???? (anyone have an online pdf for rules also).

got it, thanks. Leaves the remaining question:

Is it possible to Waive players and coach/fixed reduced players in the same round in Training Camp, by using WA actions first then followed by CX/FX actions?

Yup....thats ok....done it many times....just be sure to have the correct order....i.e waive to gain enough LP's so that the next action won't fail.

Can we use Conditional Waiving in minicamp to sign a free agent (the game report says only FA, FX, RA, RN, SS, SW and WA)? Thanks

Answering my own question : Free agent signing is before special actions so it's too late in minicamp to do the CW. I should have done it in the preceding round. Now, I can only waive the player and hope that the free agent will still be there during training camp, right?

Yeah, that's right.

You should note that even if you have a CW already in place, you still need to have enough LPs to sign the FA before the waiver goes through.
